"The Scream" was painted well before my diagnosis of multiple personality disorder (DID), and before my understanding of what exactly was going on inside. It was painted without the knowlege of alter personalities, and before any memories fo child abuse. It is an accurate view of what I felt like inside, almost all the time. The closeup of this painting follows below. I have since found peace, I am no longer in the pain that is evident in this painting. It is often difficult for me to view this image, even at this point in my recovery. It may be triggering for some survivors.
